It feels like the end of the world. I know that it is not. I know that generations, eons even, of people managed to survive horrible regimes. All the pundits are trying to figure out how we have ended up here, with a self-proclaimed dictator wanna-be and his henchmen, when really, it has always been clear. Most of Americans are racist, misogynistic, homophobic, heartless, hate-filled people, addicted to their hate and spurred on by their fear.
Don’t get me started on the ones who are going down this path because they believe it will bring on the end of the world. They are willing to trade every decent impulse to empower the world’s evil to bring about the Apocalypse. They believe they will be saved in the Rapture that is surely coming. I got some news: nope, sorry, straight to hell you will go.
And then there are the people who have abandoned every principle they claim to have. Not to mention the people they have stood with through all of life’s craziness. To align with a known criminal because of some nonsense someone told them about the other person. They gave up their families and friends for this clown and his circus. I’m not sure what will happen when their adult daughter miscarries and needs a D&C but can’t get one. Or their spouse loses their job, but can’t retire because social security funds have run out. Or, because all the immigrants who harvest crops, tend the gardens, clean the houses, man restaurant kitchens have been detained or deported, food is not only scarce, it’s way more expensive. And because those that pay into the system but don’t claim it won’t be doing that anymore, something somewhere has to be cut to pay for the difference (and the cost of the mass deportation.) Guess what that means? No more Medicare for the elderly. Grams can just die. No more Medicaid for the poor and needy. Foster kids don’t need healthcare or dental care. Did any of these people who voted for our nation’s demise read any part of Project 2025? I’m guessing not.
It feels like the end of the world. The last time, they really didn’t know what would happen. This time, they not only had past behavior and current criminality in their faces, but the new dictator-elect and his ilk told us exactly what they will do.
Ignorance is not a defense. Particularly willful ignorance.
Someone told me with a straight face that they believed the Felon-elect would keep the US out of WW3, and that the other candidate would hasten its arrival. I am not sure what information this person was consuming, but I really wish I had some of whatever he was smoking. There are millions of people who honestly believe that we will be better off with the Board of Education dismantled, social and health safety nets destroyed, all economic and ecological guardrails removed, and no international allies. It’s beyond my comprehension.
I probably shouldn’t be writing any of this down, let alone publishing it. It could very well make me a target in the new regime.
