Week one, day 6 of the authoritarian regime. I’m trying, somewhat unsuccessfully, to filter out the noise of the “shock and awe” that was the intent of the melon-hued maniac and his bevy of beastly bootlickers for their first days in power. The blueprint was widely known in advance; the architects of the plan were so confident of their vision that they shared it. Demonstrating lack of critical thinking skills, reading comprehension, or even intelligent curiosity, the vast majority of voting America either dismissed the warnings or hadn’t heard or read about the blueprint to dismantle the United States of America. So here we are. The nightmare is just beginning.
What’s the upside?
I am failing to find an upside to the chaos. There is so much, and there will be so much more, that is horrible. It’s difficult to isolate the things that should get attention. Again, this is the intent. I am trying to understand how any of the actions of the last six days have any potential upside for anyone – even for the techbros whose compliance and complicity are reprehensible. Even they may not be able to buy their way out of the implosion when it happens.
But for the average citizen who thought they were going to get rid of criminals and lower egg prices by making this choice? How are they viewing what’s happening and making it make sense? People whose families contain law enforcement and first responders, how do they reconcile their choice with the release and pardon of violent insurrectionists who assaulted and killed police? People who have daughters in the military, who may have ambition to be commanding officers, how do they square the firing of the highest ranking female in the military, because “DEI”? Tell me please. What is the upside?
The most despicable act, so far
It’s only week one, day 6. So more horror is certainly forthcoming. Yesterday, I thought that the halting of communications from the agencies with Health & Human Services was the most despicable thing, so far. It’s not, but let’s talk about this one, shall we? There is a potential pandemic waiting in the wings in the form of avian flu. The CDC, which monitors such things, is forbidden to communicate with the American public; forbidden to warn people of an impending public health crisis. The FDA, which, among many other things, is charged with keeping our food supply safe, has been forbidden to communicate about the possible dangers that may be lurking in say, eggs and raw chicken.
The worst of all, however, is the complete shutdown of activity at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), which is responsible for funding billions of dollars in medical research. Grant reviews were stopped mid-stream. Grant funding, presumably, is also on hold. Did you vote to stop cancer research? Did you? I want to know. I surely hope that no one you know is dependent on NIH funding to solve serious medical issues, or needs researchers to find solutions to their health problems.
What effect will this have on research programs across the country? How will this affect the institutions leading ground-breaking research programs? How does this impact scientists? Are they all now on furlough? We’ve been lobbying the government to spend more on cancer research, and now, there’s a pause on it all?
Watch this segment from Chris Hayes of MSNBC. He is far more eloquent about this development than I am. Here’s a piece by a health researcher. Are you worried yet? Nobody thought these fascists were serious, but they are. And they’ve just gotten started. It only took a certain German Chancellor 53 days to dismantle his democratic government and install his own. That was before the internet. I’m guessing these guys are planning to get it done faster.
And how about that SecDef
Yesterday, even Moscow Mitch’s thumbs down didn’t save us from the drunken, sexually-abusing, total shitshow being nominated as SecDef. What could go wrong? Dude has no idea what countries make up what alliances, and thinks women should not serve in the military (unless serving him, apparently.) I’m guessing that this pretty much ensures that the military will be used against civilians. They’ll start with the immigration roundups, border “protection,” and encampment oversight, and then go from there. Should civilians protest, this walking disaster will surely order troops to fire on them. This is not good. Where is the guy who told me that the felonious fartbag was the candidate who would not get us into WW3? These morons will do it by accident.
Guardrails are going, going….
Week one, day 6: This past week, ICE was trying to raid ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS. I thought ICE was supposed to be picking up illegal immigrants who had committed crimes? Wasn’t that what we were told? Wasn’t THAT the thing you all voted to get done? In my home state, they detained a US military VETERAN in one of their illegal sweeps conducted without a warrant. Are you serious, people? This is what you voted for. Hope all your papers are in order.
And last night, 12 inspectors general were unceremoniously fired. You know, the people who are charged with ensuring that our government follows the law in its activities; the independent watchdogs that keep an eye on federal agencies’ spending of taxpayer dollars and execution of agency priorities that serve the American taxpayer. This action, however, is illegal, as it requires a 30-day notice to Congress and Congressional approval. But what is the law to these people? And half of Congress, near as I can tell, is in the back pocket of the treasonous traitor-in-chief and his minions. Want to know which agencies no longer have a watchdog in place to protect the American people and their tax investments?
Here’s the list: Departments of State, Agriculture, Interior, Transportation, HUD, Education, Labor and Defense; the Small Business Administration, The US Energy Corp and the EPA.
That’s quite a list. Might be time for everyone to read up on the blueprint to understand what will be coming next. Or refresh their memories of the sequence of actions taken about 90 years ago. Because while history may not exactly repeat itself, it most definitely rhymes.
