I saw something early in the day that the governor was going to address the state at noon – that can’t be anything good – so I decided to head out to the grocery store before then to get whatever supplies we didn’t already have.
The last time I went to my usual store, there was slim pickings except in produce. Why do people go nuts for crap and leave the healthy stuff alone? That makes absolutely no sense to me. Went to a newly opened store based on some intel that the shelves were stocked and there were paper products (another crazy thing – people are buying out all the toilet paper!! What in the world!). True to my friend’s word, the store had an abundance of most items except cleaning products. In this store, all the Lysol and Clorox products had been bought out. There were paper towels, but were rationed to one packet per customer. Lots of great produce, full dairy case and yes, there was ground beef – a plus since last weekend, there was no fresh meat in my usual store. All in all, it was a reasonably successful outing and we now have more eggs and bacon, too.
Sure enough, later in the afternoon Governor Phil Murphy put the state of NJ on lockdown. As of 9 pm tonight, we’re all ordered to stay home. Of course, that means my eldest child had to make a beer run – you, know, priorities. I suppose that is equivalent to the grocery run. Probably should have had him bring home more wine….
