Happy Easter to all the Western Christians. Today, we woke to a chilly but sunny day with the promise of a lovely day. My husband spent the morning cleaning up the back porch to prepare for the warm seasons outside. A morning spent preparing for a beautiful day is a morning well spent. The temperature got up to 70 degrees today.What do I have to share with you today? Nothing of consequence, I think. Today is the epitome of renewal and rebirth; the resurrection of Christ is synonymous with the rebirth of the world in Spring. While we continue to shelter in place, staying safe at home, and the virus wreaks its havoc across the country, we collectively give thanks for the people whose “essential” designation allows the rest of us to venture out once a week: the healthcare professionals who are making surviving possible; the delivery people; the grocery store workers. Grocery shopping has become a surreal experience. Entire aisles are literally empty. The produce section is full, but full of green beans, iceberg lettuce, peppers, mushrooms and zucchini. Salad bags are a thing of pre-pandemic times. Avocados are nowhere to be found. My usual diet of avocado and eggs is now devoid of avocado. Not gonna help me lose the 10 pounds I gained since last summer.
We roasted a turkey on the rotisserie today; this was our homage to Western Easter – next week we will celebrate Eastern Orthodox Easter. Likely there will be goat on the grill.
I hope that everyone took a break from the news cycle today. I hope that you spent the day with your family and took time to listen to what the kids had to say. I hope that you enjoyed the sunshine on your neck, or your face!
