Our new normal is this: quietly waiting for the restrictions to be lifted, fully expecting to only show our full faces in the privacy of our homes and maybe our offices. When we finally do leave the house to rejoin society, will we all be mindful of the people among us who are more vulnerable to disease? We can only hope that everyone remembers to leave some distance and cover their faces. Remember to wash your hands.
Don’t be like our second in command today, visiting patients and staff in a HEALTHCARE FACILITY without a mask. WITHOUT a mask. This is the guy heading our pandemic response, so why am I surprised? I am surprised that the healthcare facility did not insist. Aren’t these people responsible for the health of their patients? What kind of bullshit is this? I mean, there are sick and vulnerable people in this joint and their healthcare providers did not insist to protect them from the potential of a visitor bringing lethal germs? How is that responsible care? And while we’re at it, does the veep just subscribe to the idea of God’s will be done? I mean, what kind of sociopath does that?
When I am finally able to commute to my new office in New York City, I fully expect to wear a mask and gloves for the journey. I fully expect that I will have to have these new fashion accessories in machine washable fabric, because heaven knows disposable will get expensive quickly. There are a few reasons that I expect this: first, it will be illegal to walk the streets of NYC without a face covering; second, I don’t want to get sick and die; and third, I don’t want to get anyone else sick and be the cause of their death. How hard is that? It can’t be that hard. Really.
This will be our new normal. We will do these things. Because to not do them is not only irresponsible and demonstrates just how little a person values others, to not do them is playing Russian roulette with your own life and your family’s lives.
I won’t be commuting for at least another month, so I have time to find my accessories. I have enough supply to allow for grocery shopping in the time being and to adjust to the new normal.
Please don’t go out without your face mask, OK? And don’t go visiting sick and vulnerable people without one, OK? Really, I mean it. Don’t be like Mike. Can’t wait for the reporters to ask him: WHERE THE HELL IS YOUR FACE MASK?!?!?
