Can you believe that my little people are high school graduates? It actually happened. My dearest friend drove down with her son (my third son) from Massachusetts, our family friend (aka the benefactor) came over for the first time since mid-March and we set up in the backyard with appropriate distances between us.
The boys set up the TV and the laptop – we all watched the pre-recorded broadcast of speeches, performances, and finally, the graduates themselves. It was more fun being able to enjoy the festivities with an adult beverage in hand. Far more enjoyable than I expected, without the added stress of having to get somewhere on time and then collect all the children who are busy saying goodbye so the family can have a celebratory dinner. It was strange, but in a good way.
My daughter’s acapella group performed (as did many of the groups) and she had a duet – what a treat!
And now the mad dash to get all the pre-college work done – need to call for annual physicals and get immunization records in; ensure final transcripts have been submitted; deposits were already made so no need to worry about that; choose courses for the first semester; register for orientation; purchase everything necessary to move into the dorm (lots of masks!); take PTO for move-in day….. And then, take a breath. It will be so odd to move them into a dorm.
And in two months’ time, my house will be quiet.

Congratulations, Sheila! You made it this far. Keep them close this summer. It’s a very precious time. Love to all!!!
