(Tuesday, August 18) Today, the news broke that Louis DeJoy, acting Postmaster General, has said that the USPS will not make any additional changes to its operation until after the November election. He made no mention of the post boxes and sorting machines that were already removed; there was no mention of the changes that have been in place for the last month or so that have so seriously slowed the mail that people are missing medication, bills, deadlines for unemployment applications. Has what has already taken place been rolled back? Or is that chaos sufficient to affect the vote? Did they decide they’d already achieved what they needed to achieve?
Every possible angle this criminal enterprise in power can conceive to suppress the vote and keep people from the polls has been and will be exercised. Every single enabler of this mobbed up con man (you can’t even call him a con artist, as that would imply finesse) knows that their constituents will trounce them and bounce them right out of their seats. The graft and grift is so obscene, it’s making even the big donors and business influences look askance and wonder about their association with the administration. I wonder at what point will the loyal begin to think about saving themselves?
This is no joke. Because of this administration’s purposeful ineptitude, 170,000+ people are dead and hot spots continue to crop up; millions are out of work and in jeopardy of losing their homes. The Republican-controlled Senate does not seem to care one iota for any of those millions. There was a relief bill on Mitch’s desk in MAY. He just adjourned the Senate for the rest of the summer – until after LABOR DAY. I’d like to see how he and his lovely grifter bride would do without a home or income for a month.
As we get closer and closer to election day, there will be more distraction, more skulduggery, more cheating on the side of the incumbent. We must stay vigilant. We are in the fight of our lives.
(Wednesday, August 19) My daughter called me this evening to tell me she had “rung in” at her new school. The school has a tradition of “ringing in” new students and “ringing out” the graduating seniors. Apparently, she rang the hell out of that bell. Wish there was video!
As a follow up to yesterday’s announcement by the current Postmaster General, such that he is, when Nancy Pelosi questioned him about returning equipment already removed, and restoring capacity, he would not commit to doing so. This excerpt from “WTF Just Happened Today?” e-news tells the story:
3/ House Speaker Nancy Pelosi accused Louis DeJoy of not committing to replacing the sorting machines, mailboxes, and other mail infrastructure that’s already been removed. Following a conversation with DeJoy, Pelosi released a statement, saying: “The Postmaster General frankly admitted that he had no intention of replacing the sorting machines, blue mailboxes and other key mail infrastructure that have been removed and that plans for adequate overtime, which is critical for the timely delivery of mail, are not in the works.” Pelosi added that Dejoy’s “suspension” of cost-cutting and operational changes are “wholly insufficient and does not reverse damage already wreaked.” Meanwhile, some postal union leaders doubt that the mail-processing equipment that remains in place would fully restore the capacity of the Postal Service. So, as I indicated in some remarks yesterday, all well and good that he’s pledging not to do any more damage, that horse has left the barn. The criminal enterprise will find some other way to subvert the vote, but this endeavor appears to have done enough damage to satisfy the Criminal in Chief, for now.
The DNC, on the other hand, is a refreshing collection of people who believe in public service (wooo, there’s a concept!) and in the power of the people. The people have been disenfranchised for too long, and they are waking up to the realization that the current powers-that-be prefer them dead or dead broke. This is going to be such a heavy load to carry for our new administration – assuming that we are able to make it happen – and so much havoc and destruction to rebuild. It’s certainly not on the Putin agenda, but we absolutely have to make sure that Putin’s agenda is stopped in its tracks. His puppet in the White House and henchmen in the Senate have got to go.
I wonder how long it will be before we know why Lindsey Graham made such a spectacular about-face on 45? Him, a Joe Biden evangelist, now a sycophant for the Orange Menace. It just doesn’t add up. There’s fantastical dirt there, I am betting. McConnell needs to just spontaneously combust. It’s only right. His obstruction of governing is spectacular in and of itself. He is the most dangerous man in our government, not the tweeting toddler. (I am pretty sure that the codes are hidden from this one.) McConnell, and McConnell alone, has failed to take up legislation presented to the Senate by the House precisely because the House is Dem controlled – and no other reason. His abject dereliction of duty should be enough to send him packing. But video evidence of a spontaneous combustion event would suffice for me.
No politician is perfect, no human is perfect, no one person can solve all the problems we face alone. But we absolutely must rid ourselves of the plague that is our current administration and all of its enablers and henchmen. We cannot survive another moment of this, let alone four years.
