They’ve found me out – and determined that I am not, in fact, William. But they do not believe that I could really be a confirmed Biden supporter. It just can’t be, can it? Their data was never inaccurate before… HA!
Oh heaven help us all.
On the bright side, we survived the final presidential candidate’s debate, if you could call it that. Debate implies that there is reasonably intelligent discourse among reasonably intelligent people, in order to persuade other reasonably intelligent people to one viewpoint or the other. Sadly, when it appeared that only one side of the room was respectful of the audience’s intelligence while the other just repeated the same exaggerations and falsehoods over and over again, I changed the channel to watch old episodes of Perry Mason. Was definitely more interesting and did not insult my intelligence.
I’ll be completely frank: I never cared so much about the outcome of a political battle as I care now. I am sure that the majority of Americans share that sentiment in one fashion or another. I cannot believe the speed at which hard-fought rights have been dismantled before our eyes, right under our noses! I am aghast at the veritable triumph of all that is base and despicable in such a short period of time. The pendulum has swung so far to the worst in us, I pray it has not gotten stuck and will shortly swing back to the best in us. And stay put for a little while.
I don’t think most Americans understood how important local, county and state elections are to their essential rights, their essential well-being. I can tell you that our standard school curriculum could use an overhaul in the civics department. I know people who were not born or educated in this country who have a far better grasp of the history and governmental systems of the U.S. than most Americans, including me (and I consider myself relatively intelligent. I paid attention in history and civics.)
Many people are afraid to hope for a better outcome, but are driven to vote. Standing in lines, waiting for hours, to cast their vote – assuring their ballots are handed to a poll worker or dropped in a ballot box, all while enduring the greatest display of voter oppression not seen in decades. Reports of ballots disposed of by postal employees, fake ballot boxes installed to dupe unsuspecting voters, ballot boxes lit on fire are rampant.
This is the last week of the campaign trail for both candidates. I would venture to guess that nothing they say or do will change too many votes. I had made up my mind well before any campaigning began. The only thing that could change is whether or not voters are actually able to cast their vote, and for those who mailed in their votes, whether or not their vote will actually be counted. There is a great deal of trepidation around just that point – there is skullduggery and voter suppression at every turn, especially in tight races. I have faith that my fellow Americans (most of them at least) are decent people tired of all the chaos and the noise.
I’m not much of a praying person. That said, I pray every day for the orange nightmare to come to an end, replaced by blue.
