Life In The Era of Social Distancing

Day #321 of Social Distancing – Ridiculousness

Written on February 4. Nothing like a good, old fashioned nor’easter to remind us that it is technically winter.

It is beautiful, until it is time to shovel out the vehicles. That was the cardio exercise of the day, for sure!

And, the day before yesterday was Groundhog Day – does anyone actually believe that a rodent can predict the weather?!? Guess what, we get six more calendar weeks of winter no matter whether the groundhog sees his shadow or not. I mean, seriously, the poor critter probably wants to snuggle deep in his burrow and sleep. That’s what I want to do and I am neither a burrowing rodent nor a weather predictor! Dang, folks, it is cold outside. And snowy!

In other ridiculous news, we are now living in a time where the executive branch of the federal government is working like an actual executive branch of the federal government, not some freaky, time-warped Twilight Zone-esque “reality” show. The ridiculous part is this: when the press secretary comes out DAILY to give updates on what’s happening in the functioning executive branch, there are people who are actually giving her shit and talking smack. She doesn’t have an answer, she says so and indicates she will follow up. This is somehow unacceptable. (?!?!?) Ridiculous. She shuts down inflammatory lines of questioning. This is somehow unacceptable. (?!?!?) Ridiculous. Did we forget what excrement was oozing out of the White House press office just a few weeks ago? Ridiculous.

Then again, we have the Republican members of the House publicly supporting its freshman QAnon, conspiracy-theory following, violence-against-other-members’ approving member from Georgia while vilifying a senior, leading member who believes that the January 6th insurrection was criminal. (Spoiler alert, it was.)

So the ridiculousness of the last four years remains in its vestiges; in its insidious, vile representation. We are not out of the woods yet, folks. Not by a long shot.

I am certain that the riff-raff will continue to do what they do. We must ignore them and move forward.
