Life In The Era of Social Distancing

Day # 537 – Treasuring the Quiet

This morning, when I went for my daily walk, the sun was still shining. It was partly overcast, and the sun peeked out at the flowers now and again. It was still cool, but the humidity was climbing, so I knew the pretty day would eventually turn to rain.  My clematis is blooming (oh, how it is blooming!) and the sweet scent of baby powder wafts by with every breeze. The bees are loving this time of year – there are clematis blooms and other flowers to taste nearby – and the air is full of pollinators. I got several photos, but this fat guy is my personal favorite. He was twice the size of the other bees that were enjoying the flowers, and made some serious noise when he flew past my head to get to his destination. It was more energy than I wanted to expend, myself.

Today is one of those rare days when there are no chores to complete and no one expected for dinner, just the family zoom call on the calendar. I almost don’t know what to do with myself. Soon enough, there will be noise and activity, things to do and tasks to accomplish. For now, though, I’m listening to the rain falling softly outside.

Today would have been a great book reading day, but I haven’t gotten myself anything to read.

Today would have been a good nap taking day, but when I tried to rest, I thought of how I needed to bleach the toilets. And then proceeded to clean out the toilets. With bleach, of course. (Didn’t I say there were no chores that needed doing?)

Today would have been a great day to slow cook something wonderful. Alas, I didn’t do it. Didn’t defrost anything. Poor child at home is getting hot dogs for dinner.

Today would have been a good day to read the newspaper in its entirety. I did make extra coffee and read the paper. Something other than toilet cleaning got done today!

There are only two of us in the house right now, and we tend to not make much noise. On days like today, the weather subdues us.
It is rare for my home to be peaceful. I am luxuriating in the quiet.
