It snowed yesterday, giving us the first real accumulation of the winter. Rather, it snowed overnight and this is what we woke up to yesterday. I love fresh snow, especially fresh powder, before it gets dirty and yucky. I suited up and got out to shovel, clear the vehicles, and put down ice melt.
Sadly, that was all I could do.
On Monday, the oldest started to feel unwell. By Wednesday, I started to feel like my throat was scratchy and the younger boy mentioned that his throat felt like he’d been screaming his head off. Which he hadn’t.
The oldest is feeling better now, but the rest of us still feel like crap. Unfortunately, there are no rapid tests to be found. My daughter, who thankfully went to Maryland before everyone started to feel sick, found test kits online. I ordered two.
Today, I am spending the day in my bed, taking OTC cold and flu meds while staying away from the kid who is feeling better. Periodically taking my and the younger kid’s temperatures. And wondering how long it will take before we feel better.
Last week, we had a mad dash to repair the family minivan ahead of the Thursday night snowstorm so the oldest could pack it up and go down to North Carolina. Now, we’re all just trying to get our strength back. The move got postponed.
This morning, I canceled the cleaning lady’s visit and our usual Sunday evening dinner date with Mary Gail. Last night, I canceled a social engagement with another friend. Told my daughter to stay where she is until next weekend, when we will be post-incubation.
We managed to live through two years of COVID without getting sick. Here we are, triple vaxxed, careful as can be, and BAM! Knocked down.
*It’s now Day #663 – I fell asleep and didn’t finish the post yesterday – and we were gifted a rapid test last night and confirmed what we suspected – the eldest, the first to go down, was indeed positive. He is, symptom-wise, out of the woods and should be good to go by Wednesday. The rest of us, unfortunately, have at least until Friday before we can rejoin the world.
I do not want to think what this would feel like if we weren’t all vaccinated.
The fatigue is real.
All of the plans for this weekend have now been moved a week. I had the forethought to purchase more antibacterial wipes and Lysol spray so by next weekend, I will be able to disinfect all the surfaces, knobs and handles.
On the bright side, it is ridiculously cold out these last few days, so being stuck inside isn’t such a bad thing.
This new variant is no joke – even if you’re extremely careful, you can get it – so please stay safe, wash your hands, cover your face and stay away from people if you’re sick.
