Life In The Era of Social Distancing

Day #11 of Social Distancing & the importance of friendship

Another week almost gone, here we are in Day #11 of Social Distancing. This morning’s sunrise was breathtaking as it broke the horizon. I’ve been going out later and later each morning – I am meeting the sun as it welcomes the new day – rather than walking in the dark. The rising sun helps me greet the day with a fresh outlook and a clear mind.

One more weekday to go, and we’re into the second weekend of isolation. From all reports, this will be much longer than we originally anticipated. As long as we can take walks and enjoy the sunshine, we should be okay.

Today, something really great happened. I was catching up with a colleague when a call came through from a cell phone in Kansas. Now, there is only one person I know that would be calling me from Kansas and I hadn’t spoken with him in two years! We worked together for many years – his company supplied our charity events with tee shirts and helped me launch my first e-commerce site. Why did he call me today? To share the jokes he is sending his employees during the social distancing era. I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time. Seriously, he called to tell me jokes. I am now part of the email distribution list.

Later in the day, another old friend messaged me his triumph of the day – closed on a major donation in support of COVID-19 relief efforts – an amazing and wonderful development.

We go about our lives and collect these relationships that often develop into friendships – and in times like these, when we are forced to slow down, the impact we make on one another’s lives can come into clearer focus.

Who has impacted you in unexpected ways? Whose life have you impacted today?
