It’s Sunday. Unlike most Sundays, we took advantage of the seasonable weather and cleaned up the front garden and the leaves that collected in the corners on the side of the house. It is so satisfying to clean up all the remnants of autumn and winter and make way for sunshine and spring. The only negative in the whole process was the lawnmower, which refused to start. Then, all the bicycles got air in their tires so when we get stir-crazy, we can make a quick getaway on a bike.
Once more, we deviated from our usual activities for a Sunday morning. I did attempt to shop online but found that to be a bust: whether it was Whole Foods, PeaPod or ShopRite, none were available. It’s 2 pm and I’m currently in an hour-long queue in an online waiting room.
The children are cranky, the husband is annoyed and I am just trying to make it through another day without losing my mind. I have interview prep to do and then I can focus on what’s left to do today. I plan on making meatballs and sauce for the children and Maniatiki pasta for John. And of course my 5 o’clock appointment with my cousin for wine and chit chat.
I made a commitment to write every day during the lockdown – even if I seemingly have nothing to write about – to chronicle each day as it happens and the little things that come to light as we navigate this time together. I’m surprised at the way we have managed to each carve out alone time and our own space; that we have not had too many outbursts or dramas in the 21 days we’ve been stuck with one another. I’m hopeful we will make it through without too much emotional scarring.
I’ll probably take a bike ride later, now that my tires are full, and enjoy the sun. Then maybe place my grocery order.
