It’s a holiday weekend Friday, I am home alone (-ish; Geoff is here with me, as always, while his siblings are out doing their thing.) It’s scorching hot out, so I am indoors, writing this post while watching Triple D. I’ve already been to the polish deli for sausages, cooked up frog’s legs picante in the tagine, and logged 3 miles around town. I haven’t decided if I am going to go bike riding this afternoon or not.
On the eve of the nation’s official birthday, thousands of people are getting sick with COVID-19 while 45 still thinks it will magically disappear – and because of this, our citizens are global pariahs – and our Attorney General makes a visit to Jeffrey Epstein’s girlfriend and alleged partner in child sex trafficking following her arrest. I read earlier today that AG Barr’s family is closely tied to Epstein, and by extension to Maxwell. The speculation a couple of weeks ago regarding the sudden removal of the US attorney of the Southern District of NY is that, among other Trump-related investigations underway, this continuing investigation into Epstein’s child sex trafficking was making the head of the DOJ nervous. Hmmm. Let’s hope the lady doesn’t mysteriously perish in custody like her former boyfriend. Dead men don’t tell tales; wonder what AG was discussing with the lady? He apparently made a visit to Epstein as well, just before his unfortunate demise. Interesting. Skulduggery, as I like to say. I think certain folks are counting on the collective attention to drift from these headlines (cue some stupid diversion over Twitter) so we miss the thread through this story. Keep your eyes on this story – it will be illuminating.
There’s no fireworks, no parties, no neighborhood barbecues. No parades, no flag-waving. On the bright side, Hamilton is showing on Disney+ so people who did not see it live can see the original cast in the original production. I have to say, I am so happy that my friend talked me into that work-related field trip. I would have kicked myself for years if I had not gone to see the show live. If you haven’t seen the show, please please please see the film adaptation. There is no better way to digest history than with hip-hop.
There is so much history that has either been deliberately buried or has been dismissed because it was unfavorable to the story that supports the white, male myth of a great America. We all need to be better students of real history, especially if it is uncomfortable and makes those who have held power for so long look bad. Because unspeakable things have been done to American citizens and then pushed out of the collective consciousness – and this tradition continues daily, made possible by a complicit DOJ and a nefarious, despicable and deranged con-man in the Oval Office.
Celebrate the nation’s independence by attending to history and how we will change history in November.
