As I put in a comment on a friend’s timeline, there’s @%&! going down at SCOTUS. While I am not excited that they ruled in favor of allowing religious employers the right to deny employees coverage for birth control, there were some victories. Specifically, the decisions related to 45’s financial records and subpoenas issued by both the Manhattan District Attorney and by Congress. Surely, there will be some fallout there, despite the parameters put around Congress’s ability to subpoena the president. As childish as this truly is, I got perverse pleasure watching the Cheeto in Chief’s temper tantrum on Twitter following the SCOTUS decisions yesterday. There’s something deeply satisfying about watching the bully get his comeuppance and the subsequent toddler-like reaction.
But, hey. There were other decisions that were groundbreaking. The decision that the Creek people could not be tried by state government was huge. For at least a century, these people have been subject to laws that NEVER applied to them because of an oversight by the feds. We may begin to think that the Supreme Court justices are cognizant and empathetic to the issues of race and racism.
Now let’s not get overly excited. SCOTUS is still a body that is politically appointed. So there is certainly some machinations. But let’s also take victory where we can get it.
There are so many dastardly deeds to be undone. But right now, we must be focused on keeping further degradation of being committed that we have to get rid of every enabler, every supporter, every faction that would conspire to tear the last vestiges of our country down to veritable hell.
I wonder, always, of the revolutionaries, and their fervent beliefs and how now, more.than ever, we need those voices to carry us out of the cesspool we created through our incessant need for instant gratification and entertainment.
A revolution is at hand. Whether it prevails depends on us. And our votes.
