Life In The Era of Social Distancing

Day #307 of Social Distancing & Day #1 of Hope – Given Another Chance

Here we are. Still in the midst of a deadly pandemic, out of control, with the former administration responsible for yet again lying to us, this time about the vaccine stockpile (remember the PPE stockpile debacle?) – and trying to hamstring the incoming administration. Good thing the new folks aren’t new and they expected to find chaos and lies.

I kept my TV on most of the day yesterday, did you? I wiped tears from my eyes more than once yesterday, too. The formality and seriousness of the oath-taking. The inclusiveness and consideration. The rainbow that is America on full display, celebrated. And, for a moment, we could unclench our jaws and cry tears of joy at the hope that the day represented.  That we all, every one of us, were given another chance.

Yeah, it’s an old white establishment guy at the helm. Yeah, Kamala may not be what you wanted or expected. The fact remains that we are a deeply wounded nation – that we all (even those who support the prior inhabitant of the WH) have suffered abuse at the hands of not just a horrific narcissist, but all of his enablers – who had the opportunity to stop his abuse but chose instead to exacerbate it. No matter how you look at it, we need kind, competent leadership to help us all navigate our way out of this abyss we find ourselves in, to (dare I say what has been said a thousand times?) heal.

Let us be thankful that our ugliness was laid bare for all to see. Let us give thanks to Black women who led the fight for us all, as they have done forever, saving our sorry asses only to be rebuked for it. Let us rejoice in the resilience of the few that became the majority to push us to this moment.

And let us be thankful that we have a new administration that places transparency and equity above all things.
