So this happened. Yesterday, the temperature dipped into the 30s. There was frost. This morning when I awoke, it was just 30° F. I really did not want to leave the comfy bed. And I had to pee, so I was forced to.
Took me a lot longer to muster the courage to bundle up and go for the morning walk.
It’s freaking November. How the hell did that happen?!?
The seasons go by so quickly. The year has simply flown past me as if I was standing still. Weren’t we just wearing shorts? Wasn’t it just hot out? Didn’t we just spring forward? And now it’s time to fall back? Who the hell wants to do that?
Here’s the thing, though. Time moves at time’s pace.
Some things just never seem to move ahead, no matter what you try to do to make them happen. The day, or the event, or the thing you’re intent on moving never seems to happen as quickly as the seasons change. There is an inverse relationship between how much you want something to come to pass and how long it actually takes to accomplish.
And yet. It is November. The seasons have officially changed. It is officially cold out. And it will continue to be. It is now officially dark at unreasonably early hours.
But this too shall pass. We will blink and it will be spring again.
Will the goals, the events, the things – will they still be standing around, lollygagging about, thumbs through their beltloops, while time races past? Or are they simply further up the road than originally thought (the objects in the mirror are FARTHER away than they appear…)? And I just thought they should keep pace with time?
These are the existential questions I ask myself.
Today, I took part in a meditation exercise at work. In my mind’s eye, a little squishy being was gathering up all the spiky bits of anxiety that gather in my shoulders and taking them out, like trash. And then coming back to pick up more. This went on in my head for the entirety of the exercise.
I wonder what that little anxiety collector would think about my lollygagging things/goals/events standing around by the side of the road, thumbs through their beltloops.

Love this! It’s all so true!
