Life In The Era of Social Distancing

Day #9 of Social Distancing & Staying Positive When Tensions are High

Sunrise over Brainerd Lake

This morning’s sunrise was a visual reminder of hope and positivity. It’s pretty important now, not just because of the coronavirus pandemic, but because life has a way of throwing up obstacles. Things can get dark and gloomy if you let them.

But the sun rises every morning, and illuminates the beauty of Spring and the charming town I live in. We’re only two days into the second week of #socialdistancing and the kids are already sick of one another. There was an intense moment of shouting this afternoon between the brothers because one wasn’t behaving with the seriousness that this health crisis requires. It was waaay more intense than I have ever experienced: “You are the worst human being I have ever met! I f****ing hate you!” There was a lot more than that, but you get the idea. Shocking, actually. The recipient of the tirade had to hold in his laughter until the aggrieved child left the room. I was speechless. Until I, too, laughed hysterically at the sheer intensity of the exchange.

This morning

After the outburst, everything calmed down, people went back to their business: I went back to work, the kids back to their studies. My oldest decided to go to the supermarket and buy more food. We now have sushi supplies and the ingredients for stir-fry, along with a whole load of other food. I think he was hungry.

Later, while I was making my evening tea, I received an automated email that my application for a role I interviewed for yesterday is not being moved forward. So, more than ever, hope and positivity are necessary.

What gave you hope in the face of adversity today? Where are you getting your dose of positivity?

Stay safe and healthy! #lifeduringcorona
