There are just 97 days left until election day 2020. There are warnings that the new head of the USPS (a 45 appointee) has slowed down mail delivery in order to delay mail-in ballots. The suggestion is to allow a 14 day window for mail-in ballots – so that should be figured into when you mail them. There’s nothing this crew won’t do to sow chaos.
Let’s hope that we are able to get a reprieve from this insanity in 97 days.
In the meantime, we’re preparing for a weird beginning of college. In about 3 weeks, my little girl will be in her dorm, embarking on her new life. Her brother will start classes in about 5 weeks, online. Getting everything done beforehand seems to be a challenge. Transcripts have yet to arrive (or they arrived when the campus was shut down.) On the bright side, it is the boy’s school, not the girl’s, and we’ve got a couple more weeks to finish everything up (online orientation, too.)
Part of me is excited for them to embark on this next chapter, the other part of me is sad – the years went by so quickly – and the memories are mostly a blur. It wasn’t that long ago that they were small and (mostly) sweet, building websites and making fingerboards, filming videos, singing silly songs….
Thankfully, I have saved every video they recorded on their flip cameras; I have recorded many of the silly moments that are, for now, safe in the cloud. (Safe is a relative term, obviously.)
In two short months, they will be legal adults and I will officially have three “adult children.” I pray that the nation where we currently reside finds its way because of these newly minted, voting adults. We are all so exhausted from the constant criminality and cruelty. Every day is a new splinter stuck into our collective eye. We all would like a little peace and a lot of humanity. There will still be fighting to be done, for sure, but not with the feds on the daily. Not if we do things right in 97 days. I am counting on those newly minted voters.
Some day, we will look back on this time and wonder how we ever managed, if we did at all.
